Focus in research and teaching

The group of apl. Prof. Bachmann (Soil Physics) has a long-year expertise in soil physical and physico-chemical analyses to specify surface properties of soil particles. The analysis and specification of effective physicochemical parameters in combination with flux processes in soil (water, heat, solutes, colloids) is the major research interest, aimed to link basic soil physical and chemical properties with environmental research and which is considered as one of the essential and innovative elements of future development of the group. Some of the key research programs conducted during the last years were embedded within the framework of two DFG Priority programs (SPP 1090: Carbon Sequestration in Soil; SPP 1315: Biogeochemical Interfaces) and one Research Group (FOR 1806: SUBSOM). Of central importance were studies about the coupling of the wettability of soil particles with fundamental physical soil processes with respect to soil structure and water, heat, solute and colloid transport processes in natural and model 3 phase systems.

Jörg Bachmann has participated in national and international scientific committees and commissions, and is associate editor of two international scientific journals (Journal of Hydraulics and Hydromechanics, Vadose Zone Journal). He coordinated several years the scientific workshop “Advanced Modelling with HYDRUS) together with Prof. R. van Genuchten and Prof. J. Simunek. He is reviewer for Soil Science Society of America Journal, Journal of Hydrology, Vadose Zone Journal, Journal of Colloid Interfacial Science, European Journal of Soil Science, Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Geoderma, Journal of Soils and Sediments, Catena.
